Utility Operator

The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting job opportunity as a Utility Operator located in Croydon, PA. The Utility Operator will be a member of a shift-based and plant-wide team that consistently manufactures high quality products to meet Dow Coating Material Business objectives in a safe, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sound manner. Utility Operators utilize knowledge and experience to safely operate the utility equipment in an optimal manner and make further improvements in plant performance. Persons filling this job are expected to become qualified to operate the utility equipment. Successful performance requires an individual to work effectively in an empowered, team-based, and ever-changing working environment. In addition, the individual is expected to develop basic process and product knowledge, to become proficient in troubleshooting equipment, to complete minor maintenance, and to act an owner for the process to which they are assigned. Utility operator are expected to complete other tasks to ensure safe and effective operation of the plant, such as issuing safe work permits, conducting inspections, training, writing procedures, and supporting continuous improvement efforts through individual efforts and teams. The job also requires above average communication and interpersonal effectiveness in the frequent interactions with engineers, mechanics, activity coordinators, reactor operators, and logistics operators.
Own operation and troubleshoot as necessary the following systems across the Bristol Site:
Steam/Condensate Supply Systems
Chiller/Chilled Water system
Cooling Tower
Air Compressors
Nitrogen Supply
DI Water System (Tanks, Pump, RO Unit)
Electrical Heat Tracing
Chemical Sewer System
Support and troubleshoot as necessary the following systems:
Fire water / Fire Suppression
Waste Water Treatment Plant
Monitors process conditions, and equipment via control systems.
Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve deviations and problems related to process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems; identifies and resolves issues. Work effectively with team members to overcome obstacles using Resolve Myself and other Operate Plant sub processes as appropriate.
Performs tasks assigned to operations as per MTL ? inspections, field checks, equipment preparation, rework, samples, etc. Includes completion of required checklists for safety, environmental, PPM, etc.
Completes accurate recording of shift events in Logbook; Communicates items in needs of follow-up. Ensures adequate follow-up was completed.
Uses process knowledge and skill to continuously improve plant performance in key measures of safety, productivity, and quality.
Initiates and participates in Root Cause Investigations and MOCs
Follows and creates, where necessary, operating procedures to ensure safe and efficient execution of all tasks.
Performs equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance, utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines
Isolates equipment as required and issue safe work permits for maintenance and project work.
Arranges for shift coverage and emergency maintenance call-ins.
Ensures adequate housekeeping is maintained within the work areas.
Orders operating supplies to ensure safe and continuous operation.
Participates in the training of new employees as well as completing department required and/or annually required personal training.
Participates in the hiring, development and performance certification testing of operation personnel.
Develops personal goals that align with and support plant and business goals.
Performs Immediate Response activities to address plant issues.
Reports key performance indicators and measures; identify deviations and root causes
Actively participates and leads department safety and environmental teams, process improvement, and team-building activities when needed.
Take site meter readings on a monthly basis to support site utility accounting
Develop and maintain training program for utility operators
Point of contact for calling in any backup utility systems in the event of failure (i.e. rental compressors)

Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills are required.
Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Must be able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Must be willing and able to work in such environments wearing safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
Must be willing and able to wear a respirator.
Must be willing and able to work in such environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 55 pounds.
Must be willing and able to work in such environments working in tight or closed-in spaces.
Must be willing and able to climb stairs/ladders and working high off the ground.
Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Must have a current, valid US driver's license.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred.
Read Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's) preferred.
Read Electrical Diagrams preferred.
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
Associate or Vocational Degree/Certification in a mechanical, industrial or technical fields.
3 or more years of industrial or manufacturing work experience. May include professional or military experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
